Hi! DS just went to the dentist, and we found out that he has been grinding his teeth so much that it is starting to wear the teeth down. Now we are in the process of getting mouthgear that he can wear to bed. I'm wondering if the teethgrinding is related to his meds, and whether he is doing it when he is asleep or when he is awake. Any other teethgrinders out there? If so, did your doctors think it was worth it to lower the med dose or change meds? jw

I'm not sure it's related to meds or ADHD. I grind my teeth and don't have ADHD (that I know of!)
I only grind my teeth when sleeping, not when I'm awake. I often wake up with tired jaws. Wearing my old orthodontic retainer sometimes helps me, so a nightguard may be a good idea for your son.

I grind my teeth while sleeping, too. I have a mouth gaurd that I (sometimes) wear. For me, the grinding seems to be related to stress - more stress more grinding and clentching. There are some over the counter mouth gaurds that are designed to protect the teeth at night. I had mine custome made years ago - it was pretty expensive and insurance wouldn't cover the entire bill.

Add me to the list of teeth grinders while sleeping, and I don't take any meds. It definitely happens more when I'm stressed. I apparently also "bite the side of my mouth" while I sleep, because the dentist said there's a visible line that's adjacent to where my upper and lower teeth meet, and pinch the flesh....

My 8 yo ADHD child grinds his teeth while sleeping, but I think it's related to stress more than ADHD or meds. DH tells me I sometimes grind my teeth at night (I wake up with a tense jaw when I do), and it's mostly when I am stressed about something (which is pretty often, unfortunately). My sister used to grind her teeth as a child (don't know if she still does), and she did have a lot of anxiety then.

My niece used to grind her teeth both while sleeping and when awaked. Bought her mouth guard also but she don’t like to wear it. So took her to Torrance dentist where she was given a good medicine that helped her to stop grinding.
