We've addressed this before but it's been awhile, the negative effect that Strattera has on sports performance. When the med is working, the kids just don't perform as well. When the med isn't working or they aren't on it, they run faster, play harder, act like they want to win and basically just do a lot better.
Has anyone else noticed this or found a way around it? My dd is a good athlete but the Strattera, while great for school work, takes the spring out of her step when she's playing sports. It's tough when you know they've "got it" because you've seen it pre-meds and then it sort of disappears once the meds kick in.

Hi!!
My son has been on Straterra since just before Xmas. I haven't noticed any major decrease in his ability to play sports.....he is going to be a good sportsperson too! He plays school sports, hockey, and soccer.... He is quite good in hockey. Agressive and fast.....
The main areas we notice the difference in is his school work - attention, focusing, not shouting out answers, and not disturbing the class. He has always had a lot of energy. The straterra doesn't seem to slow him down much. This as far as I can see is a good thing...... I always liked his energy. We can handle him outside of school, but for those hours when he needs the be attentive, we find the straterra just right!!!

I definitely noticed a decrease in my sons ability to play sports while on Strattera. He is a hockey player and definitely lost his edge while on that med. He tried it twice so I truly believe that his "laziness" per se was linked to the Strattera.
He also experience a very scary heart racing incident during a game once which caused me to immediately discontinue use of Strattera.

Looks like these posts are old, but was hoping to hear more about how the straterra affects sports performance. My DD is having trouble getting her adrenaline going when she competes. She is doing a lot of thinking while she is playing, but it isn't translating into physicality. She used to be a great competitor. Now she emotionless and says she can't find her passion for her sport. When I read about atomoxetine, as compared to stimulants, it says that emotional blunting is NOT a side effect. Can someone with similar experience comment?
