My son had started Adderall XR we are in the third week, he started at 10mgs and is at 15now. He has a history of tics induced by stimulants.
The principal reports he had a "groundbreaking conversation" while on 10mgs. the principle has known him for 5 years.
One teacher - is great, sends home summarys of what is being covered in the trimester - she thought in the beginning of the year he would need small group support in math - he has a B+ average - she is pleased.
The other teacher (language arts) is not as communitive - that is to say, we hear all the "negitive" stuff but not positive. I don't think she can be pleased. and example - the children have to draw a picture of the first chapter in a book, my son drew it and drew it well, he was completed on monday and it's due friday. He handed it to her today to show her and she freaked out that it had no color! Well . . . fine. . . just tell him again to finish it up for the next day when it is due.
But no . . it was an issue, you see . . he did not remember . . go figure, I don't suppose it could the ADHD?? We do have an IEP this year, perhaps just a gentle reminder? But since she told all the kids and showed examples and explained that color was required . . lets condem him . . shall we? I saw her last Friday and commented on his meds increasing Monday her only response was "we'll see".
OK, you get the picture, his IEP states that he has problems organizing, he did after all attempt to show it for approval. I understand in the "real world" that we must follow directions, but is this not the time when we learn?
Anyway the Learning support specialist is wonderful, too often I feel she is stuck in the middle. She is very supportive and helpful. All communication in reference to how the medication is working has been through her . . . i hate putting her in the middle.
The expectations in 5th grade are SO high, there are lots of kids unprepared.
Anyway I feel very confortable with 15mgs and I think thats where we will stay. It would be nice to get some positive feedback, I know he is doing great!!
