Kathy, your original multi-vitamin choice looks like a decent one. You did a good job picking it out. The Liquid Health is a fairly comprehensive multi which contains all the major vitamin groups as well as minerals and trace minerals. (It's important to include those trace minerals.) The B-vitamins amounts are low, which is probably wise until you know whether your child will respond well to them or become worse. Overall, nutritionally, it's sound.
Added benefit, it already contains 60mg GLA, so you would have no need to include Evening Primrose Oil in your list of essential fatty acids to supplement.
Word of caution...it does contain a benzoate preservative. This may not be a problem for you, but my son is very badly affected by benzoates and so we avoid them quite strictly.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I feel pretty ignorant, though. What is GLA? I am just learning about supplements. Evening primrose oil? I also don't know about the preservatives. We have not really been successful trying any diet modifications. I make an effort to stay away from too much sugar and food coloring and I don't allow Cokes and stuff except for special outings. We avaoid more than a very small amount of chocolate and I don't buy sugary treats, etc....but I don't really have any help with any other diet modifications so, it really doesn't work. So I guess I don't know whether to worry about benzoates or not. I guess we will try the Liquid Health. I need to find somewhere else to purchase it. Also, does anyone know anything about Liquid Health CALM. Just wondered if that was beneficial at all. Kathy

Ok. I can get the Liquid Health multivitamin, but since I also want to put my non-ADHD child on it as well, can anyone point me to a less expensive multi-vitamin that is comparable? What do ya'll use? Neither child can swallow pills. Thanks, Kathy

Besides the Liquid Health that I mentioned, can anyone suggest a less expensive, appropriate multi-vitamin. I would like to give to my ADDer and my non-adder. I have looked at so many that my eyes are about to cross. My kids are taking the omega-3's well with vit C and E. I hope to add the magnesium in another week. I think my ADDer and myself will take that one. I have been reading about things that help PMS and may give some of this a try, too. Anyway, what multi-vitamin does everyone use? Kathy

I don't know about "less expensive" but Kirkman Laboratories makes powdered vitamins that you stir into a drink. They make both high-B6 and low-B6 formulations, depending on your needs. I like the "Everyday" type with low B6. www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/product_index.htmlMy children can swallow pills, so that's what we use. Much less expensive, and way fewer additives. I buy the Sun Harvest/Wild Oats brand "Basic Multi". I have heard a lot of people recommend -- though I've never tried them myself -- the Freeda chewable vitamins. Carob and unflavored are Stage 1 Feingold approved. www.freedavitamins.com/On GLA...it's an Omega-6 essential fatty acid, found most readily in Evening Primrose Oil supplements. Taken with Omega-3, it helps address attentional issues. Interestingly enough, it also helps with problems related to your menstrual cycle, particularly cramps.

You shouldn't. That's not enough to interfere with copper to a significant degree.

Ambersmom, What you have is a synthetic form of Vitamin E. While it's perfectly safe, unfortunately only about half of the Vitamin E content is usable by your body. I'd go ahead and use it, since you already bought it, but would replace it with a different type when the time comes. There are plenty of good, inexpensive Vitamin E supplements out there. I use the "Now" brand because it is widely available in stores and quite cheap. The one you found that lists "d-alpha tocopherol acetate" would be just fine.

My son is taking Coromega fish oil supplements. He takes two packets a day which is 700 mg EPA and 460 DHA it also has 24mg of vit c and 62 iu of vit E. In addition to that I want to start him on a multivitamin. I found one I really like Pedia Power chewable by NSI . The multi vitamin has 4000 iu of vitamin A (beta carotene, fish liver oil) . Since I am already giveing him fish oil supplements is the amount of vitamin A too much? I really like this vit because it has 15 mg of zinc in it which is hard to find in a kids chewable vit. . thanks for your help

If the Vitamin A is in the form of beta carotene, you don't need to worry about it. The body will convert it to retinol as needed.
