I agree with Bros. We do not know anything about your son's age, his diagnosis, or even what medication you are asking about. You should talk to your son's doctor, before giving him a double dose of any medication.
Every child's metabolism is different, and medications are different. Some ADHD medicines are "short acting," and may only stay in a child's system for 4 hours, while some are supposed to last for 10-12 hours, and still others are designed to last 24 hours.
There is a saying, "pills can't teach skills." Before you talk to your son's doctor, it would also be helpful to find out more from your son's teachers, about what behavior problems they are seeing. Some children may act up, and seem like they have a behavior or attention issue, when they actually have a learning disability (LD.) For example, a child who has dyslexia (reading problems) may not be able to sit quietly and read a book, even if the teacher tells the class that's what they should to be doing. Rather than being embarrassed or appearing "dumb" in front of his classmates because he doesn't want to admit that he can't read the words, a child might make a fuss, which distracts everyone from the real problem. It is good that you want to help your son, but you have to find out more. Did your son's school do any testing for learning disabilities?
