www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/dropping-out-of-college-record-numbers/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=topstoryA 2014 report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center states: “Over the past 20 years, more than 31 million students have enrolled in college and left without receiving a degree or certificate.” According to the National Center for Education Statistics only 60 percent of students who started a four-year college in 2008 graduated within six years. A 2011 Harvard study shows even more dismal graduation rates: 56 percent of students complete four-year degrees within six years — and only 29 percent of students complete two-year degrees within three years. In fact, the U.S. has the highest dropout rate in the industrial world, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development." Among the reasons: cost, being poorly prepared academically, choosing a college that's not a "good fit," etc.

Interesting article. It would be nice if there was research about the numbers of students with LD's who drop out of college. I know they are hidden under these "other reasons" stated in the article. It always kills me when I see the statement that "parents need to step back" as this is impossible for a student with severe executive functioning who do not learn by failure. If parents don't step up, they have a depressed adult/child in their basement who is not sure how they ended up there!
