I am currently training to become a teacher of children with learning difficulties and special needs and have a project to do which involves interviewing parents regarding the challenges faced by the child and their family outside of the school setting and how these challenges are coped with. I would be extremely grateful if any parents would be able to answer the questions. If prefered the answers can be sent as a private message. The questions are posted below. Thank you in advance.
Can you describe your child’s special needs?
Name of syndrome or disorder:
Physical challenges:
Intellectual challenges:
Emotional challenges:
Social challenges:
- How old is your child now?
- Were there any early childhood traits that indicated your child had a special need?
- Does family history indicate anyone with the same special need as your child?
- How old was your child when you were told exactly what their special need is?
- Do you feel that your child has experienced positive changes since being classified?
- What equipment, medications, therapies are needed to help your child with their challenges?
- What activities does your child enjoy? What adaptations need to be made for your child to be able to participate in the activities?
- What types of programs/classes is your child enrolled in at their school?
- How has your family life been impacted by your special needs child?
- Does your child need to attend many specialist appointments?
- Does your child have siblings? How have their lives been impacted by your special needs child?
- Do you need specialist assistance in caring for your child?
- Can you describe a typical daily routine?
- How is this routine different at the weekend?
Many thanks
