I know Millermom's forum has been "quieter" lately, due in part to the fact the holiday season is filled with other priorities, which can offer distraction from educational concerns and the many issues facing our offspring. There are also many more "specialized" websites now, offering online advice for virtually every condition children/young adults might face, so parents have more choices about where to post. Nevertheless, I am ever so appreciative of the support I've received here over the years, and I wanted to take the time to say "Thank You" to all.
When I think back to the days when a number of us first "met" online at the old site Schwablearning.org, it makes me realize just how far our kids have come! To be sure, their paths have seldom been "straight and narrow," and there have been a number of "bumps in the road," but by and large, they face their challenges and continue to move forward in positive ways. Sometimes it's seemed like a step forward, and a couple steps back, but our kids aren't quitters, and with the proper assistance/accommodations they can accomplish many good things and reach their full potentials. As has been said before, life isn't a race, it's a journey, and I'm grateful to be sharing it with you.
P.S. I didn't have time to post this before Thanksgiving, because we were helping our son close and move into his first house. Yes, this is the same 24-year-old with ADHD and LDs and panic attacks, who, when younger, I often wondered about whether he'd get expelled from and/or drop out of school. Even without the "best grades," he's managed to graduate from college, and he's been at his professional job for over a year. (He still loves his cars/motorcycles, and really wanted garage space, which is hard to find in any apartment rental situation.) He plans to rent a few bedrooms in his house to some co-workers, and so we'll have to see what happens next, but if you'd told me even 5 years ago that he'd be confident enough, and financially able to own his own place, it would have been hard to believe. Sometimes, truth really is stranger than fiction!
