First off, HI EVERYONE!!!!!! Great to see/read old timer familiar names still here.
I've been trying to find this in Section 200 NY regs but can't so figured I'd pose the question here.
A friend of mine has a 4th grader who was classified since toddler for speech. He was really on the spectrum but has been intervened to death so no longer meets speech classification. Other than a few quirks, no longer meets criteria for being on spectrum either.
He was declassified from his speech IEP end of last school year, so this year is on "declass".
This school year, while not having trouble academically, is having trouble with impulsivity and (teacher expectations of) behavior. He does have ADHD recently dx'd by a dev ped.
NY used to have a safety net of sorts that for your first year of declassification if you falter, it is easy to reclassify. Does anyone know if that still exists?
Second question bc this is bringing back PTSD for me and my dd is... I can't help but think that bc functioning requirements change by grade, although he is doing ok now and mother is seeking a 504, he may possibly need more than a 504 in the future.
Anyone current on this? Any advice?

Hello again, to you, too! I'm not from NY, so I'm not really sure what declassification/reclassification guidelines exist there, but I'll bet that your "mother's intuition" is accurate, and having an IEP again for OHI (Other Health Impaired) to cover the child's ADHD would be preferable to a 504 accommodation plan. Perhaps you can find the info you need here: www.advocatesforchildren.org/sites/default/files/library/guide_to_special_ed.pdf?pt=1
