My son has been on Strattera for 6 weeks. It has for sure helped him to be calmer and no more mood swings like he had on stimulate medication BUT the focus piece is still not there. Homework is struggle already and its just the first week ! The doctor is trying a higher dose to see if that helps ...anyone have experience where that has helped? If not our next step is to add in a small does of short acting Ritalin or Concerta

Did not help my daughter, either. She broke out in a terrible rash two days in, and we immediately stopped it. She was about 9 at the time.

Songbirdsusan, I'd just like to say "welcome" to Millermom's forum. Out of curiosity, how old is your daughter now? What treatment approach is she using now?

Hi, she is now 11, and we get a little bit of a result from Concerta. No result on Metadate, developed a tic with Adderral, rash from Straterra, and Guanfacine literally put her dead asleep, even at 1 mg. We are going in for a med eval next Monday, but the Psych doesn't want to up the dose on it (she's at 36 mg). Not sure where to go from here. Read about sleep disorders which mimic ADHD symptoms, so we're going to ask if that can be done, as she falls asleep in class occasionally, and always seems tired. Weaning her off Zoloft right now, to see if she still needs the med for some depression and anxiety she experienced in second grade. Is there thread about essential oils? I've had great success with doTerras lavender oil, to help my daughter sleep through the night. Nothing else has worked through the years, but this has!
