Well, I'm glad that his stuff wasn't taken from him while he was in Syracuse. The situation in Delaware sounds like a good opportunity for HP to get some meaningful experience working, and interacting with other people. I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything falls into place for him to go do it.

This was only the first place. You submit one application for many positions. This seems rather ideally located--not too far away. My daughter will be in St. Louis. Hers requires a lot of physical work and it is a bit...something...to see your 5 feet 4 inch 105 pound child preparing for the test by carrying a 40 pound pack on her back and thinking about the possibility of her fighting fires in the forest...

Since you mention that kids submit one application for many positions, I'm wondering why your daughter selected that one? (I'm surprised they'd use Americorps volunteers to fight forest fires...it's not even a typical job for experienced firefighters. At least there aren't many forest fires in St. Louis/the Midwest.)
As far as HP goes, how long does he have to decide to take a particular position? (If Delaware is the only offer he gets, I'd hate to see him delay accepting it and then miss out.)

Good luck to HP and to your daughter. Also - hope you have a good year and smooth transition with all your students.

They are actually clearing the forests and sometimes encounter fires. I am not sure why she picked it. It did seem like she want to do something a bit more physical right now, perhaps because she is a bit academically fried. Senior year was tough.
I think the amount of time they are given to accept jobs varies a little. As I recall, my daughter had a week and a half or so. My sense is that he is going to be more likely to want to take the first thing, which, all things considered, might not be bad.
Thanks Michelle. I am a little "concerned" about the new year. I have almost all tenth graders. They are a very different bunch than in previous years. The students with IEPs are lower functioning and a bit needier. We haven't had this for a while. I had one ninth grade class (who are the tenth graders now) but it was a small class and it was more of the higher functioning kids in that section.
