I stumbled across this article which focuses on two questions asked during in an interview with Pepsico's CEO, Indra K. Nooyi, and I feel that her candid responses are worth sharing here...There's no mention of her children having any LDs, and yet she still finds it very difficult to balance being a wife, mother, and successful businesswoman: www.businessinsider.com/pepsico-ceo-women-cant-have-it-all-2014-7

I don't think anyone can have it all. Life is about trade-offs. I have worked very hard and feel very fortunate that things have worked out very well for me professionally, financially, and family-wise (I have two great kids and a 30 year marriage). But, I had to make sacrifices -- I traveled a lot when the kids were young (I still travel a lot) and frequently missed things at school etc. But, because I started my own company (and dealt with the risks associated with that), when my kids had health problems (both had serious problems) and LDs, I was able to organize my schedule to put strong efforts into them. My wife feels like she got short shrift in those years -- she probably did as building my reputation and my firm to make an income and kids typically came before her. Now with the kids gone from the nest, we have more time together.
In contrast, my SIL and BIL decided for a long time not to push in their work but to have a good home life. They are always there for the kids. They were being subsidized in part by my MIL but I don't see how they are going to have retirement savings. Maybe I'm wrong.
Life is about trade-offs.
