I attended a local Chadd meeting this evening, and the speaker was a neuropsychiatrist, Dr. James Marks from Vernon Hills, IL., who specializes in medication management for ADHD and other mental health conditions. He said that about a month ago, a colleague told him about a new Pharmacogenomic DNA swab test that is being used to identify certain enzymes in patients, and it can help determine how they might metabolize different medications. He thought the test was originally developed in connection with Mayo Clinic, but he wasn't sure of all the details. The name of the test is GeneSightRx, and I found the following website: www.assurerxhealth.com/patients and a letter patients can share with their doctors at www.assurerxhealth.com/library/resources/documents/wwwassurerxhealthcom_InformativeLetter_Final_06262012.pdfWhile this testing doesn't say exactly which medication at which dosage will definitively work for each patient, it sounds like a promising step in the right direction!!

I wonder what the cost of the test would be? I doubt seriously that Tricare would find it necessary.
