Hello everyone, If anyone knows much about the thyroid secretions and how it may contribute to ADHD, could you please write and let me know the skinny? Thanks so much, Patti Krueger

There is a connection I believe. Check out the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism on the web. I believe the hyperthyroidism symptoms can mimic ADHD, I think. We had dd's blood drawn a few years ago and checked for a number of deficiencies. Her thyroid was a little high so they drew blood AGAIN to check. Then, it was OK so nothing was ever determined but there's got to be a reason why it was a little high, eh? From what I can remember, some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism were irritability, hyperactivity, being especially thin and anxiety - all of which she has. But check me on that. It's been awhile.

Pattikrue, I did a "search" for past discussions that mention ADHD and thyroid issues, and the following is from an interview with Dr. Ned Hallowell, who is a psychiatrist and recognized authority on ADHD: > Q: Can you tell me if there is a connection between allergies or asthma and having ADHD? > > A: Yes, indeed, there is a connection between allergies, asthma, and ADHD, but it is not a causal connection. There is a much higher incidence of allergies and asthma (as well as a host of other conditions and quirks, such as early ear infections, bedwetting, sleepwalking, migraine syndrome, night terrors, sleep disorders, thyroid disorders, left-handedness or mixed dominance, poor hand-eye coordination, poor handwriting, and klutziness) in people who have ADHD than in the general population. But it's simply an association, not a cause. > Remember, also, the upside! People with ADHD tend to be more creative, tenacious, entrepreneurial, jovial, forgiving, charismatic, original, and fun than the general populace as well! > - Ned Hallowell millermom.proboards.com/thread/12285/ned-hallowell-shares-insights-adhdAnother discussion that might be of interest to you discusses iron levels and ADHD: millermom.proboards.com/thread/3978/iron-levels
