On the National Institute for Literacy today, I found a free short 30 minute online course that they created: "Understanding and Applying Research in the Classroom." Which was designed to help teachers to identify whether a 'support programs' research, is actually valid or not? But it would be equally helpful for parents evaluating a support program as well. It doesn't show how to analyse the research, but rather what to look for, to see whether it is valid research or not. So here's a link to it, if you would like to have a look? lincs.ed.gov/research/applyingresearch/player.html

Thank you, eoffg, for mentioning this. I hope you don't mind that I modified the title of your post, in order to highlight the importance of it, and help make searching for it easier in the future.
