well it has been a little over a week since we went from the 25/10 to the 30/10 dosing and L seems to be doing well. (reminder:he had been on the 40mg morning dose since july and it was losing it's effectiveness and he was showing aggressiveness) He was really weepy on the other dose(25/10) and he was only on it for a week. As soon as I put him back on his 40mg he was better and got even more better when we did the 30/10 split. He is still whiny but I am sure that is the 5 year old in him and I hope he grows out of it soon. In the mean time he seems to be doing well in school and at home which is nice for a change. The only problem I have had is the one day that he napped late and didn't get his 10 mg dose till a little after 4. He stayed up till almost 11 that night!! grrrrr I won't make that mistake again!!

Same here! Take my advice, if you don't get that 10 mg to him by 4, may as well skip it! Won't kill the effectiveness to drop it once in a while.

Why would the 10 mg pm dose keep him awake? When my daughter (13) started strattera, we gave her meds to her at night so she would sleep through the side effects. We never say any sleeplessness. We are very new to the strattera. It has been a wonderful medicine for my daughter. She is 13 and weighs 112. She is taking 60 mgs in the am and we are considering a 10 mg dose in the pm to help finish off the day.

It is indeed a little mysterious to me as well. If you give the 10 before 4pm, its full effectivenss has decreased drastically by bedtime. My theory (guess) behind giving it too late and keeping them awake is this;
Before Strat, my son barely ever remembered his dreams. I think becuase of his tangential thought process he didn't really have full fledged dreams, just fleeting thoughts and evaporating plots, just like his conscious mind. Now that he has been on Strat, he does indeed remember his dreams. I think the effectiveness is helping his dreams develope into something he can recall, that has a beginning, middle and an end.
I think giving him the dose too late keeps his mind too stimulated and active to fall asleep easily. I think it makes for a better nights sleep to be pretty winded down, mentally, by bedtime. If you give it at bed time, the dose while ramping up, it won't really be working yet, so it may not disturb sleep. Plus the ramp up usually cases lethargy so it can help sleep in the beginning.

kluv2, I'm glad he's doing well, we will keep our fingers crossed for you all. The medication process can be so frustrating at times, but well worth it when we get where we need to be!!
BTW, good theory Millermom!
