I am going so nuts with the homework around here! Between my two boys it's 2-3 hours a night! We have no time for anything else. Probably some kids breeze though it but not my two. On top of it all I find out my younger sons Spanish teacher (ugh) has been keeping him in for recess for not doing his homework. She's been giving him the regular homework and not his modified homework and has apparently forgotten about his IEP. Now I have to call AGAIN and remind her. It seems to never end. Then DS got into a scuffle at school today and said some horrible things to another boy, so I got a call from the VP. Is elementary school supposed to be this hard? I'm barely surviving. On a positive note though, I am lucky enough to live near Gina Robuck and had breakfast with her yesterday! She's going to help me sift through all this mess. I didn't realize until I was talking with her just how much I have to deal with. Anyway, just a vent. Do all your kids have this much homework?

My kids both have the same amount, my dd gets hers done before I get home 25 minutes after her. My ds (a year older) cannot get his done during his 40 minute study hall and the 60 minute homework club put together. Some days he is still doing it after dinner. I don't even have to check Miss "I am going to Yale"'s HW and it all gets done. Mister "I am close to being pt in boot camp" 's has to be confirmed with his teachers daily or he doesn't write down what he doesn't want to do.

Pearl2, I am glad you were able to connect with Gina. She will be of great help to you. She mentioned meeting you.

Mine could take hours to do what a normal kid would do in less than an hour. I'd talk with the teacher and ask how long they think your kiddo should be working on the homework. I had a meeting with my ds teacher at the beginning of the school year. I was told one hour max. The teacher will except whatever he can get done in one hour. She even instructed me last week about not even doing any of the homework if it takes him the hour to complete an unfinished writing assignment brought home to complete. I love this teacher to pieces.

Homework is a total headache. Pretty much ruins every evening as we have to spend so long on it - it's ridiculous.

I'm not a big fan of homework! Kids need a break from school to do extra-curricular activities or just chill out! My ds is in 4th grade and luckily his teacher believes kids need a life and only gives a worksheet of some kind every day along with their nightly reading.
