I had sent the principal a letter requesting a 504 placement for my son. She called this morning and talked me into going the informal route with accomodations first. I told her that was fine, we'd try that. She told me that I had a wonderful teacher this year I hope that is the case. His teacher is a man and I think that may be what my son needs. I want him to have a completely different experience than he did last year. I didn't bash last year's teacher by any means, but told the principal that with her as our next door neighbor it made things awkward. We talked about retention a bit...how I was against it at this point. She wanted me to be aware that often parents think that if they have a 504 plan or IEP for their children that means they can't be retained and that is not the case. Duh... I told her that I didn't want that for my son and she said that he was promoted of course, but C and D type work in first grade was about the equivalent of failing! I think she now knows how I feel on that subject. Any ideas on what type of accomodations I should present for my ADHDer? He is mainly inattentive. Thanks! Dana
