A friend of mine recomended Braingym for ADD for my son. The website doesn't tell me a whole lot. Is it worth a try? Anybody had any experiences with it? Here it is: www.braingym.orgThanks in advance, Terry

An OT comes into the special ed classroom I work in and does braingym exercises with the kids. We incorporated several of the exercises into the morning schedule so the kids do them daily and not just when the OT is around. Within a couple of weeks, with our only Down Syndrome girl in the class, we noticed improved coordination. In general, several of the kids did concentrate better, but I know the classroom teacher was disappointed not to see academic and memory skills improvement.
The OT told us that she goes to another elementary school that uses Braingym in their mainstream classrooms and everyone loves it. She was especially thilled when she saw a boy get frustrated and then indpendently did an exercise that would help him focus and be able to try the task again.
I think just about everything is worth a try when it comes to helping our kids. If there isn't a Braingym facilitator in your area to get you started, I'm sure there are books to teach you the exercises and what each one is focusing on.
Good Luck!

You can get the book and do brain gym at home but in all sincerety it isn't going to "cure" ADD. I used it at the learning center where I used to work to get kids to follow directions and get them more focused but it didn't last. Now when I do it with kids before some speech sessions the kids look at me like I am from another planet...because it is different and they feel silly doing the exercises in a classroom.
