HI All, Hope summer is going well! We will soon be on our way back to the States for vacation. Just wanted to let you know about our early success with the Fast ForWord program. We are in to our third week and are starting to see good progress in phonological awareness and just barely measurable, but still, measurable working memory. No increase in listening accuracy yet, but I think the game for that leaves a bit to be desired. We haven't had any problems getting DS to play the games willingly but ,he does need breaks between games as he still fatiques after 25 minutes of total concentration. I am pleased so far and think that this is much more fun than if we had hired a SLP for the summer. Look out Lego Land and Sea World here we come!! Am excited about Texas too, cuz then grandparents can take over and we can take a .....nap? ;D More later, Snorkeler AKA Elastigirl

snorkeler,
I am new here and am not familiar with your situation. I assume that you have a child with CAPD? What is the subtype? I have heard that FF works well for some subtypes but not others.
We have working memory issues, but it doesn't seem that there is a problem with phonological skills (at least so far). I hope to know my ds's primary subtype problem after the audiologist appt on Thurs.

HI Notab, Welcome!! My DS does have CAPD, severe receptive language delay and poor expressive language. I believe that DS has all the subtypes but that is just what I got from reading all the books on it. Our Audiologist didnt discuss these with us and at the time I didnt know there were subtypes. I learned all this from reading and sites like this. THe game my son likes for working memory is a matching game. You can do it at home with a deck of cards. (age appropriate level) Select a few matches and turn them face down. Have DS turn them over one by one working from left to right and top to bottom. When DS has got the hang of it and mathced 6 cards easily add more 8,10,12,etc. We are working on 16 cards right now. You could also do word games like pick an object in the room. Make up a small sentence. Hve the child repeat it. Then add more objects and the sentence gets longer and longer. How many things can you remember? Kinda fun if you do it in the car too! Houses, cows, cemitary, motor cycles, etc. Good luck with the appt. and keep us updated.!! Snorkeler AKA Elastigirl
