Hi Everyone!! I'm over here in Japan and not much work here unless you want to work at the PX! Been there done that! Need advice on career path! I have read every book I can get my hands on that has to do with kids LD's , obviously have one myself, have advocated for other kids in their IEP's and run three parent support groups with varying success, run and or built from ground up elementary school PTA. I am thinking of what direction to take all this knowledge. Can I take some "tests" to opt out of college courses and get a degree in something to do with education? I will need to work when I get back to the states and want to use what I've learned on this journey of kids and LD's, kids with physical disabilities and visual disabilities. Am leaning toward advocacy but would like to continue working with kids as well. Anyone with a job they really love? I have a BS in BM. But it's never been much use to me. Plus it looks funny too!! ;D ;D ;D Snorkeler AKA Elastigirl

Why don't you go to the DoDDs district office and see what is available? My ds attended the special needs pre-school class on Kadena for 1 year to be evaluated. There might be something working directly with the kids or something in the district office.
Have you taken the civil service tests? You may be able to get a GS position at Family Advocacy or you can see what NAF positions are offered. Perhaps there is something at Lester hospital?
Those are the only 2 career fields I can think of that can put your interests and knowledge to good use!
Good luck!
