Well, today is the last day of school for my Junior High guy. They get out of school at 11.30 I am trying to savor my last two hours of freedom - Ha! I have loads of clearing up to do from the weekend but feel like I should run out and do something wonderful for myself to steel myself for the summer. To one and all - over the summer. Hope you have a wonderful one.

Wow, we still have a full month to go. Last day is June 24. To add insult to injury, our School Board decided last year to build in a bunch of snow days... way, way more than we needed, and now we're stuck with them. They decided to make June 3 and June 6 days off from school... for the sole purpose of being able to take those days away if we needed them for snow days. Well, we didn't need them. So now our kids have Memorial Day off, the following Friday off, and the following Monday off, and then they have to come back and go to school for three more weeks. I feel sorry for the teachers... if I were a teacher, I might feel like this was some diabolical plot to torture me... WHAT in heaven's name are those kids going to want to do in school for the 3 weeks between the week of June 7 all the way up to the 24th? ?? See, this was going to be my data point and it turned into a rant.

Wow - the 24th? I think that's the latest I've heard of. When do you go back to school?

We get out on the 24 of June too, but the last week consists mainly of half days - which is a pain.

Gillian,
We never go back until the day after Labor Day. So it's about a 10-week break.

Ours is a 12 week break - is that nutty or what? When I went to school (many moons ago) in England we got a 6 week break for the summer. We, of course, thought that was fantastic. I know by the end of the six weeks we were bored to tears. I think it is still the same over there. 12 weeks is just way too long.

Well, I got y'all beat. Our summer vacation started TODAY, but only because my son had an appendicitis this weekend!!! My lucky son is only missing 2-1/2 days of school. Our last day was to be Wednesday. I live in NC and the legislature voted in a policy this year that school cannot start before August 25th. Instaed of the usual second week of August. I'm in total agreement with this, but alot are not. This gives us an extra 2-1/2 weeks of summer vacation this year!!! Sandy PS: my poor son is going to miss his 5th grade graduation ceremony tomorrow!!!

Summer officially starts tomorrow for us. My dd only has 1 hour of school, my son was out last week.
We will still be keeping up with some learning activities, but I am glad that they will be at our speed and our timing. I think I will give them until next week.
They deserve a few days off!!! Happy Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter's last day is tomorrow & shes off until after labor day also. I like the long summer break. We, too, keep up (to some extent) with learning activities but we are pretty relaxed about it. We are in the process off moving so we will be putting DD to work painting, gardening, etc. She wont have time to get bored! LOL
