My dd is in the 1st grade. They have started fractions.Yeterday she had a problem on her homework sheet that seemed very easy to me but she could not get it.It had a rectangle and she was to draw a line to make 2 equal sides.I could not make her understand it. And last week we were going to my parents house who live an hour away. She kept asking if we were there yet.I told her that we were half way and she could not understand what I meant.I tried explaining it after we got there but it was hard for her to understand.Does this sound like a LD?I'm going to have her checked for Auditory Processing Disorder.Could that make her not understand things when I explain it to her or does it sound more like a LD?

Hard to say without an evaluation. If it is only math, it could be dyscalculia. Check it out and see if it is. If you go to www.ldonline.com and check type dyscalculia on their search function, you will get some articles on it.

Brenda, if you feels she needs one and it sounds like she does. You need to write a letter to the school to request for it. Checkout these links for sample letters and descriptions of evaluations. www.concordspedpac.org/www.listen-up.org/rights/rights.htm#compwww.wrightslaw.com
