Steph got her report card Monday. She made an F in reading. It's weird though. She went to her doctor yesterday and he got her to read these cards. She read the 3rd grade card and she's in 1st grade. She's always been a good reader. How could she make an F?I guess because she can't remember what she's read and answer questions about it.

Brenda,
I have taught first grade before and I am thinking that her teacher is probably taking grades from her phonics work and any type of workbook or worksheet grades. It sounds like she is not using her reading skills as any of her primary grades. Does that make sense? lol

Some very good news to report.... My 5th grade son made honor roll for the very first time!!! He had an F in math last report card and brought it up to an 89!!!!! I was at work when he got home from school and he called me. I screamed over the phone at him. He said MOM( in a kind of aww shucks voice), then laughed. I have been making a big deal out of it all week. He hasn't played his beloved video games because of the F. Maybe this wake up call worked!

Brenda--
I would definitely ask the teacher what's happened. You and your daughter need to know. If she's having trouble with phonics worksheets, that's one thing. If she's "reading" but not comprehending, that could be something very different.
You can't help your daughter unless you find out from the teacher what is breaking down, the frequency of the breakdowns, and what the teacher is doing to address it.
Mrsheartbuzz--
Congrats!! w*ve
