Well - had a teacher meeting yesterday to go over DS's writing issues. For once it went really well. I told her how last year we had a big meeting, the special ed teacher with NO history with DS said there wasn't a problem, the principal questioned her because she wasn't prepared to fully buy that - but then his teacher (who had left me a voicemail message only three weeks earlier stating that DS was going to "fail the writing course for the year") piped in and said he didn't have a problem with writing anymore. Therefore nothing was done - according to his teacher there wasn't a problem. (This was October). She then proceeded to leave me voicemail messages all year long about DS and his writing . . .
His teacher this year told me that she knows DS well enough now to know that his potential and ability do not match his current work - yet is isn't from lack of trying. She totally got that it was a part of the adhd and she immediately wanted to get together with the principal and others to go over what needs to be done. She is pregnant but she said that even if she gives birth - she will come back in for meetings to be DS's advocate if she has to! Finally - a teacher who gets it!!!!! We also went over how the teacher last year REFUSED to initial his homework assignment sheet - and he wasn't writing it down - I had told her my intention was to get DS in the habit and then the teacher wouldn't NEED to sign it. Well - this teacher has been doing that and she told me that it is working - she still checks on him but she doesn't really have to because he automatically does it now. Finally a good teacher - (I am now keeping my fingers crossed for her replacement in a month when she gives birth).
