Hi I thought the school, the teacher of record
and his two other academic teachers were
on track for Devin.
My 19 year old that has severe chronic migraines,
also ADHD pretty much controlled, LD and depression
when migraines are bad. He was blacking out in
the car when driving, and was put on depakote,
and the things of possible seizures and aura
to migraine were added.
So he had dropped out of high school with 4
academic credits missing and 6 electives left.
No thoughts of what to do, and then we got
the depakote. Did some rocky things trying
to get a GED last year. Went to night school
with mom driving 2 or 3 nights a week for
4 or 5 months. Of course they can't use that
for the 2 english courses he needs.
Anyway he all the sudden decided last may
at the end of year to return to school this
year, WOW, mom didn't do much more than
ask every couple of weeks all summer are
you sure. He was doing fine, and missed
I think 3 days at the most in the first 4 1/2
weeks. Maybe a little longer, then he caught
a viral infection(sinus) and migraines were back
in big time, went to pediatrician, tried school
2 days one week, went to neuro and tried school
2 days another week. But then started can't
return I hate BC building. I finally decided something
in the building was causing the problems. He still
seemed fine when he wasn't sleeping and so on.
Went back to pediatrician, and the guy wrote
a homebound note for out of BC building, exactly
like that. So he does his building trades in another
building, he went back the next day, and had trouble
with head and all the rest of that week. But got up
and went, came home a little better.
I turned in his form, and asked that any home work
be sent home. Idiot Advocate that I am since I've
never had trouble with this school, didn't put it in
writing. So I wasn't able to check with teacher of
record that day she was gone, I tried. I gave the
stuff to nurse and she recorded to everyone needing.
I tried the coordinator she was absent too.
Tried the day after the next, still no one available
when I was. So I went the next week, and got a
we need conference, I'll get it scheduled are you
sure he isn't coming back. NO
I didn't hear a thing that week, but thought okay
I asked again this teacher for anything they needed
to have caught up.
So I went the following Monday to ask why no conference. She is hard to find in middle of weeks,
still hadn't talked to coordinator, was out till next
day, so I left, got call next day, coordinator wanting
to set up, well of course I had told not this week,
because I'll be gone, darn wish I had forced a wednesday or do I, I was hunting meds that day.
Anyway they set it up for Yesterday, and it was
to be fine. But he has two of the teachers really
mad, and they gave F's for 1st 9 weeks, with
A's and B's first 41/2 weeks, which is irritating.
One he knew that it was possible with teh fact
it was grammar class. But they refused or said
they did to make up things so they could change
grades. Irritating as it is, I can totally understand
other than he has to pass the classes.
So I've been fumming and can't tell him, so I'm telling
you. I'm really wondering what I should have done
different. He needs the grades and its set for rest
of semester, I know that if he does teh work for
the two classes the teacher of record will pass him,
but I'm not sure of the other two.
I am not to happy, wondering about it. I put a call
into the director of special education, wanting to
know what I should do. Of course the poor coordinator
had no clue he was given F's and she is really nice.
