Don't know what is happening here?? My 10 yr old, who has an IEP, has always been an A, B+ student, is not doing classwork. He is coming home with check - (not complete) on his work. I know he can do the work! He loves school. Teacher states he is not on task. Get him on task- is this what is happening? First time we are seeing this. Last year the teacher gave him non-verbal reminders. This year ?? who knows. There is no aid in the classroom, like last year. Has anbody else seen this in the classroom?

Andy this really bothers me. You just had his IEP meeting and there is still no improvement in the help they are offering? Why did he have an aid last year and not this year? Is staying on task one of his goals? If so what is the action that is supposed to take place? I really feel for your frustration. I wish I could help. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ANDY}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Gosh, this one bothers me. Someone probably needs to observe him in class (actually observing the teacher as well) and make recommendations. My daughter is really bright but if she gets frustrated she'll give up and end up going over board in not doing well. We came very close to this state this year when she started to feel like she was bad because the teacher kept punishing her for things that she couldn't control such as not hearing her call everyone to the next task. It's kind of like she gives up thinking that she can't please the teacher.

I think maybe they need to get an aid in the classroom. this year. These aids are extremely helpful in keeping kids on task, even those that are not classified. He was probably doing so well in the past because there was another set of eyes in the classroom making sure the work was getting done.

a*g As on result of the IEP meeting my "A" will be out in resource room for 2 hours. He was very defiant about this when I tol him. He didn't want to be away from his friends! Very social he is! No social skills! m*d a*g He starts this tomorrow. There is no aid. If he was to have one he would have to be switched to another classroom. The Special ed teacher comes in to help with eveyone for two subjects. What I need going on is basic behavior mod in the classroom. Redirection, ect. He got this last year after a struggle w/ the teacher "who didn't get it either' until the middle of school. He came home w/ all his homework in the backpack last night and did all his homework well. Teacher states "he is perfectly capeable" of doing all these things. They don't understand the medical aspect of it. He can do the work, he might need some intervention. I'm tired of hearing from all of them that he is "Capeable" sp??

l*me Hmmm . . . if he is CAPABLE, then why does he have an IEP?? m*d Stay on 'em Andy!! You can do it!! My DS also needs to be redirected as well. His teachers have always said that when the other students have their books out and ready to go . . . my DS is still getting ready. Arghhh! He has always been a slow starter and he has difficulty changing from one thing to the next like others. By the time he figures out what is going on, everybody else has already moved on without him and he tries to catch up. Then he gets scolded in front of everyone when the teacher realizes that he is not doing what he is suppose to be doing! m*d Then he feels stupid, dumb, etc. and everyone picks on him! m*d He also gets punished for not trying hard enough!!

Andy
I sent you a couple of emails, and now i"m gone for a hour or so. I'll check and see if you got them later. I hope things start to improve.
By teh way is their a class with a aide already, if so how about if its general ed they change his class. I think that would open some worms.
I'm guessing it was either a special needs other than your son, or a too big a class last year.

Sharon, just been there. I told the teacher that my daughter thought that she was bad and couldn't go to sleep on time due to anxiety. The teacher has lightened up. Can you talk with her (again?)
