Hi I was a volunteer advocate, just like most of
you are doing here on site. For about 10 to 12
years. I was trained by the people that I know
work for.
Not sure when but a few years ago the State
of Indiana Dept of educations, Specifically
the director of Special Education decided they
liked the services my bosses provided. But
that they were centered in one place, so they
supported the plan to put some of us all
over the state.
In the first few years they put some in different
parts every few years. I was one of the last areas
added. I've had my job for 3 + years. And its
awesome, see this is the one job that you can
have and still put your children first.
My Derrick has had to be hospitalized just in
a few hours more than once, I've had to cancel
meetings, tell parents I can't come, but my
bosses say MY Child comes first. They tell
me to do what I can and thats what I've done.
When I started I had just had surgery on my
Elbow a major put it back together. They were
so great to me. I was still one of them.
I do have a list of advocacy groups, I'm hoping
its okay to post this, if not tell me.
You say MN, so here is the contact place I
have, when my job became a job they sent
word to their volunteers, but if I hadn't applied
and gotten it they would have been looking
in other ways.
