We went to the Open House at my daughters (non-add) middle school last week. I was so impressed with all of her teachers (and hope C will have them in 2 years)...Most of them commented that 7th graders are notoriously disorganized and that they are trying to help them become more organized...
Some examples...
Science teacher has everything color-coded and numbered (i.e. notes are copied on yellow paper, homework sheets on blue, lab reports yellow etc)...she does notebook checks and expects (and grades) them on everything being in the right part of their notebook. She also updates her schoolnotes.com website almost daily, so you can keep up to date with what they should be doing for homework. She also posts their averages every few assignments (using their student # so it is anonymous)...this way they can keep track of how they are doing and seek extra help, if needed.
Math & Social Studies teachers have a sheet in the notebooks where the kids write down their grades and the parents need to sign off on it (if they are not signed, the teacher contacts the parents)...also SS teacher commented that if he gives them no homework he expects them to write that down in their planners (as he said, with 9 teachers if nothing is written down how can they remember if they do or don't have homework in a certain class).
English teacher - has clear cut expectations of what she expects for each part of the work (i.e. if you complete x amount of reading log letters you get 100% for that portion for your grade, if you only complete X then it's down to 85%)
Last year, since we were so focused on everything going on with C, she was able to slide a bit...this year ( ) since things have settled down for C, she is once again in the spotlight...so it will only help her in the long term to have teachers like this that are teaching her how to be more organized!
Just wanted to share!
