Grrrrrr! My almost 13 year old just would not get up this morning and ended up being 2 hours late for school. He didn't seem worried about it at all. I didn't phone in an excuse for him so he will have to face the music but that didn't seem to bother him either. The mornings have always been a pain with him but lately they have become intolerable.
I'm just really ticked off at him lately. He's developed this real 'ATTITUDE' and I've had my fill of it. The whole family has had their fill of it. If this is the start of 'teendom' I'm ready to run away from home now! Grrrrrrrrrr!
Okay, I'm done venting. Thanks for listening.

My DS will be 14 next month, and I remember the last year as one of the worst. He seems to be "outgrowing" some of the behavior now, but thinks he is older than he really is. He wants to do the things and go to the places where the bigger teens hang out and does not understand why he still has a curfew, and why I do not allow him to go to certain places without an adult. Last year we had a lot of anger and temper. He also did not care if he made it to school or got good grades. With the start of sports this year that changed dramaticaly. He has to be in school, keep his grades up and stay out of trouble in order to play. I think that made a BIG diffrence to him.

Maybe there's hope for me yet. If I survive that long!! We also have the 'thinking he can do what the older kids do' problem. Aaaaaaaugh!

heh, my daughter is 7 and she already wants to be a teenager... I am deliberately NOT thinking about what adolescence will be like. YIKES! Good luck to you! If you find the magic ticket, let us all know!

What time does he have to be at school? Did you know that have studies that prove beyond a doubt that teenagers fall asleep later in the night and tend to sleep long in the morning? Most schools start at an unnaturally early time. That's probably mainly so they can have time for afterschool sports. I also question whether many kids are drinking soft drinks with caffeine after school. If so they may not be able to fall asleep until a later time. My kids school isn't allowed to sell soft-drinks during the school day but does sell to them after school which only makes the problem worse.
Beyond that I've found I have to be very strict in having my daughter get up. She gets a 15 minute advance wake-up call. Then I become very strict about having her out of the bed. It's frustrating and stressful for me but she's never been late. Sometimes I'm sitting out in the car waiting for her to come out the door.

Well, he finally got an in-school suspension for his tardiness. That woke him up for a few days but today he was late again (although only by about 10 minutes - which is good for him!). School ends next week - I can't wait.
