Well I have to say that we are very lucky to have such a wonderful 4th grade teacher for my 9yr old son with ADD. She did a great job helping put the 504 plan into place. The principal, guidance counselor, special reading, title 1 math teacher, and us (parents) met the week before Feb. vacation. I was expecting a long, drawn out meeting. To my surprise, this was the best, most organized, and wonderful meeting we ever attended. This 504 plan covers EVERYTHING! From seating, to redirecting, to "one page at a time on tests", to no timed tests, to encouraging his participation early into discussions, etc. etc. We are so pleased. Finally!!

jwm, that is wonderful news. Now comes the hard part - making sure they follow everything they wrote in the 504 plan.
But good job advocating!

So far so good. This year my son has an exceptional teacher. As for next year and so on.... well thats where my husband and I will be watching like hawks to make sure everything is the way it should be. We used to sit back and just go along with things because we didnt know any better. Now...we listen closely and question everything we are not 100% sure about. We also constantly ask..."what are you going to do to help Chris with this problem in school". So time has been very educational for us. I will keep you posted on this one.
