My 2nd grade child carries a cute little money purse on the days that she buys lunch. Almost all the girls do this but I'm starting to think that this is not a great plan for a child with ADHD or ADD. What happens is that the kids set their purses on the table at lunch and the "spacey" girls tend to have theirs taken when they are not aware of it. My daughter had no problem in KG and 1st grade with this set-up but the kids may be getting a little more sneaky. We have "lost" 2 purses in 2 weeks. She has tiny jeans (size 4 slim) but I'm going to see if the money can fit in those little pockets. Maybe this is a good life skill to learn anyway. Terry

Our school does lunch tix - I send in a check for 20 lunches. The tix remain on file in the cafeteria, therefore nothing to remember/lose. Why don't you suggest something like this for your school? (They can't buy extras like snacks with the ticket, just the regular lunch.)
When the tix runs out, they get "oops" slips. I usually find out we have run out when I see these oops tix in the dryer or when the ADHDers younger sis reminds me (the cafeteria lady tells younger dd about older dd needing a lunch tix!!!!).
Other than that, I'm with you on the jeans pocket. If the $ is scrunched down in the pocket, they can't lose it and don't have to remember to bring it to/fro lunch.
Also, FYI - you wouldn't believe the quantity and quality of stuff in the lost & found at our school. It is a HUGE box of mostly brand new clothing items (winter jackets) and lunch boxes.

I agree with d. This is not a ADHD problem. We pay the lunches monthly by check. If I didn't get the oop's slip I would forget too. Our lost and found is unreal. ton's of stuff. All kid's misplace things. This is undue stress they put on both parent and child.

I concur with d and michaelsmom. I don't think this is an ADHD problem. Our school issues kids pin numbers and they punch them in for lunch. Someone is there to make sure they punch in the right number or help if they forget their number. At the end of each quarter I get a printout letting me know who has bought what for lunch. If my balance goes below 0 the district also sends a note. We also have a huge lost and found. I am sometimes amazed at what kids lose. I have been lucky that my ADHDer has done well at keeping track of his things.

While this may not be strictly an adhd problem, the adhd really exacerbates it. My son used an old fashioned plastic coin holder to hold his milk money....and promptly threw away the container with his trash every day. In the pocket, in the hand. No matter what the $$$ never made it to the lunch line. Thank goodness we started the lunch ticket system or I think the poor kid would have dehydrated (LOL) ;D

My daughter insisted on carrying the cute little purse like the other girls but the problem went away when she stopped being near the "class bully" in the lunch line and at the table. She sometimes still forgets to bring the purse home at the end of the day but at least it comes home eventually. She is probably a little more organized than the average kid with ADHD but she is so spacey that it is easy to snatch her things when she isn't paying attention. It's just a dumb game mostly that the second graders play. The child that has something snatched catches on and eventually gets the item back. With my dd she won't miss an item until she needs it again and, in a way, it makes the teasing less fun for the teaser because they don't get the immediate response. The teaser is left in perminant possesion of the purse. I'm teaching my daughter to just stay away from kids that tease other kids too hard. There are so many other kids in her class that she can hang out with.
