Hi Mayleng,
(or anyone else with advice)
My son is 5 and in a Pre school disabilities class. He was recently diagnose with Aspergers and possible bi-polar on top of his already existing ADHD.
I have had to deal with the child study team and I believe he gets the 504. He gets the smaller bus and class size, etc. (The 504 and IEP's are confusing to me.)
We had a psych. appt and the teacher wrote a report on Codys progress.
Here is what she said:
(Briefly- report was 6 pages long)
*he has made some progress since start of school year.
*is a brite boy who performs at age level and above in the areas of gross and fine motor, language academic readiness, thinking and problem solving.
*has an extended attention span when using fine motor skills.
*demonstrates significant needs and concerns in the area of behavior and social development.
*seems to be several issues impacting Behavioral/social skills....sleep disorder, lack of emotional connection to people, defiant behavior, impulsiveness, and high act. level. at time displaying several of these concerns at same time.
*possitive teaching approch used with limited success.
she states that progess seems to be at a stand still with him and he continues to have great difficulties while in school.
she than goes on to state some questions and more concerns.
A few of them are:
*does not have reciprocal relationships with children/teachers.
*no concern for consequences.
*does not have "friends" however children want to play with him.
*is bossy.
*will not engage in conversation even with excellent language skills.
*often isolates himself and doesn't let others join.
*manipulative with addults and kids.
*difficulty w/ sharing and taking turns.
*defiant/non compliant behavior.
*refuses to follow direction.
*purposely swing hands, sticks out tongue, crosses eyes, yells or makes noises when he does not get his way.
*always wants control of situations.
*difficulties with transitions.
My question for you is, what should I do? should I push for something more? What more is there to push for?
I fear that he will not be successful when he starts Kindergarten. Maybe like he will be lost in the shuffle. If he is doing so bad in the preschool disability class that only has 6 kids including him and 2 teachers, what will happen with Kindergarten?
OK this is long enough. Hope you can shead some light on this for me.
Thanks,
Tina (Codysmomma)
