My son is in 5th grade and dx ADD in 2nd grade. He is presently on Metadate and does very well on it. He is bright, in the excellerated classes (except math!). Has problems socially, as not really fitting in. A really "good kid". My question . . . . the school has not "formally" been notified of his dx., although the teachers know he is on meds and no he get distracted, takes longer to do things, is meticulous, etc. Do I need to get the school involved before he starts middle school, before things have a chance to go wrong? I have a mildly autistic son who is in 6th grade and has an IEP. Thanks for any info. Deb

The way you describe it, it looks like he is doing exceptionally well, and I doubt that he would qualify for an IEP now anyway. As for his social skills, a friend of mine who has kids with Non-verbal Learning disorder recommends this book Highly - Jarvis Clutch, Social Spy by Mel Levine. You can get it at www.allkindsofminds.org
