In Illinois, on November 4th, the state legislature will start debating on Public Act 0021, which will specifically eliminate gifted education funding! As far as I know, no other public school educational programs are affected except for college. If you live in Illinois, please contact your senator and State rep about this. Devin's in the 3rd grade gifted program, and truthfully, without the program, I don't know what we would have done. He would have been bored to tears, and as a result, his behaviors would have been out of this world!

Contact everyone you can. Local school board, regional school board (for the specific local funding programs) state senator, state rep, and the governor. And the assessor's office in your county - find out how much in taxes your school district receives, and how it compares to other districts in your area. If you are just concerned about gifted education, it's not necessary to contact the boards adn assessor's office....but I did contact my state rep, senator, and the governor. Although the legislative members can't set the budget, they at least do the voting on it, and the governor comes up with the numbers, so each party is important!
