Several recent studies, like these from 2013 and 2016, show abnormalities in the white matter microstructure of children with SPD, or Sensory Processing Disorders: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24179836 says "These findings suggest abnormal white matter as a biological basis for SPD and may also distinguish SPD from overlapping clinical conditions such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26858611 found "White Matter Microstructure is Associated with Auditory and Tactile Processing in Children with and without Sensory Processing Disorder."
