It is also of concern, that she wants to 'privatise public schools'. Which would then be run by corporations. Perhaps by the same corporations, that run the prisons?

Unfortunately, it seems like a number of the incoming Cabinet nominees, not just the Education Secretary, have backgrounds that make one wonder how they can be considered qualified to do their jobs...

I recall that the Treasury Secretary, was the head of a bank that played a major role in the recent 'Global Financial Crisis'. As well as the new Environment Secretary, being an executive in a major oil company.
I did note in his speech today, that he highlighted that money was being wasted on public education. Which seemed to be a prelude, to a corporate takeover of schools. Though I am coming to the view. That this will extend to a Corporate takeover, of the US Govt? With Corporate Heads appointed as Secretaries.
Where Secretaries will have greater concern with keeping Share-holders happy, than the general public. In an age, where major corporations use tax havens, to avoid paying tax.
I do wonder whether we are on the threshold, of developing a more Global Community?

DO contact your representative and any others regarding Betsy De Voss. I know its a coincidence, but I wrote to an out of state member of congress and the next day, she announced she would not support De Voss. If enough people show they are paying attention, it can make a difference!

Thank you, hsmom, for the links. As the nytimes.com article states, "But if Michigan is a center of school choice, it is also among the worst places to argue that choice has made schools better. As the state embraced and then expanded charters over the past two decades, its rank has fallen on national reading and math tests. Most charter schools perform below the state average.
And a federal review in 2015 found “an unreasonably high” percentage of charter schools on the list of the state’s lowest-performing schools. The number of charter schools on that list had doubled since 2010, after the passage of a law a group financed by Ms. DeVos pushed to expand the schools. The group blocked a provision in that law that would have prevented failing schools from expanding or replicating."
What a sad state of affairs, especially for school-aged children, who aren't able to vote yet!

Her focus seems to be on removing students with disabilities, from public schools? Where parents will be given a voucher, and told to go and find a private school. Where corporations will probably be invited to setup 'Disability Schools'? Maybe one for each school district? Which don't have to comply with IDEA, as they are private. That could become 'dumping grounds'?
Public schools could use this to raise average grade levels? By sending all 'low performing students', off to their local Disability School?
