kesra, according to Cat's post above "For anxiety and depression, Whole Health MD recommends 50 - 100mg 3 times daily. 300mg daily appears to be a perfectly safe (and effective) dose, though you may want to start low and build up, in case it bothers your stomach.
Don't take 5-HTP if you also take anti-depressants or other psychiatric medications, St. John's Wort, cold medicines with ephedrine. Also avoid taking it with muscle relaxants or narcotic pain killers (like codeine) since you can become extremely drowsy. "

Thanks for your help. In speaking with our local health nutrition guy, he would like to see us try Rhodiola first before we go to the 5-HTP so we are going to give it a shot. Since he's overfocused, anxious, and impulsive we definately feel we need to get the serotonin and dopamine leveled out along with minimal simple carbs due to his weight gain. I also purchased the Nordic Natural Cod Liver oil because he thinks my guy may benefit (metabolize) it better than the Flax. Any input on the Rhodiola is welcome. Thanks again--this forum makes it all alot easier.
