I do have to say that exercising did change my body. So even though i went back to the weight I was prior to exercising & dieting, the body is different. I am sure part of the weight that I put back on is muscle weight.

Don't you think there should be separate "calculators" for men vs. women? According to the BMI calculator listed in reply #58, I'm of "normal" weight, and I could gain over 25 lbs. and still be of "normal" weight... I don't believe it. (I can sense a weight gain or loss of even 2 or 3 lbs, either way, but it's really the way it's "settling around my midsection" bothers me the most.)
Lillian, re: my husband eating more "healthy oils" by snacking on nuts, he didn't change his weight, but the improvement in his total cholesterol and good:bad cholesterol was what impressed the doctor.

Healthy, if you are a member of a gym see if they have zumba. It will help your abs and it is fun (latin dancing and aerobics).

I think I did see a sign at the YMCA about zumba, but I wasn't sure what it was...thanks; I'll have to investigate further!

If your tummy is hanging because of the C-section, the only thing that will fix that is surgery. I have had 2 c-sections and a total hysterectomy, so 3 cuts. My tummy hangs over the cut (across my tummy). I have abs, but the overhang extra skin does not go away.

Mayleng,
Laser lipo (aka smart lipo) is another option for excess fat/skin over c-section or similar scars. It has a very short recovery time (I think only a day or so), and is better than regular lipo for these sorts of areas because the laser also shrinks/tightens the skin and does not leave the lumps that regular lipo can. It can be done as an outpatient procedure with local anasthetic. I'll see if I can find some links on this for you.

I have this same pouch over my c-section scars (I had 2), I think it was somewhere b/w $2500-$3500 was the estimate I got when I went to doctor for consult.
There is also something called mesotherapy or lipo disolve, which is fat disolving shots combined with massage (don't recall all details).
I liked the idea of the laser lipo b/c it used a smaller tube, less down time, cost less b/c outpatient, immediate results, plus it tightened skin. I've been asking santa claus for this for a couple of years maybe he'll come through this year, lol.

Healthy,
Hunting for those sort of animals is what started my husband on getting mules, lol. This could be good or bad for your health depending on the mule you get, lol.

Sharie, was your last comment meant for another thread, or in response to Lillian about eating free-range animals? (Are you planning to eat mule??) My prior response had to do with the benefits of eating dark chocolate, LOL!!!

Your right for some reason I thought that was your thread, no I wasn't planning on BBQing the mule, I would imagine their meat would be tough, maybe mule deer, or elk, lol.

Lilian,
I'm not surprised by the research you posted. Whenever I come back from workshops at the High Mowing School in NH, I feel great. The cooks are good and use a lot of local produce, eggs, and even meat when available. There is a farm nearby that practices biodynamic farming which supply much of what they use. Also, they use a lot of whole grains and little sugar.

We discussed purchasing swimsuits earlier in this thread ~ I just came home from our local Land's End Inlet (it's their outlet store) and they had a wonderful clearance sale going, where overstock, discontinued, and slighly imperfect swimwear was just $9.50 per item! I happen to prefer the tankini 2-piece suits, and I'm smaller on top (bummer) than on the bottom, but I could mix/match as needed, and I paid $9.50 x2 = $19, but if you're one of those people whose size is consistent, they actually even had a couple of 3-piece sets, with a color-coordinated cover-up skirt included in the $9.50 price. (Of course, one-piece suits are also just $9.50.)

You can also check out chadwicks online their mailout had lots of cute suits in it. It even had the swim short I like so much (you get more coverage and comfort than even the boyshort bottoms).

Hsmom, You made my day. I am in my 3rd month of a strength training DVD. No weight loss yet but about 5 inches are gone. Now I am even more hopeful.

Dihicks, how's camp? I am with the no-diet group. I can't be bothered. I can't have the real thing then forget it. I hate diet Tonic water which my husband brought home. I told him he's a guy, go workout. They can lose it much easier. My sister does Weight Watchers and told me that it's moderation, balance and lot's of fiber. I keep prunes in the fridge. lol Aspartame gives me the runs so even if I relented to the diet foods I can't.
I could see working out the additional 3 hours a week making a difference at my age but as it now I have to schedule whatever I can around my predinner workouts. I also lucked out having a gym 5" from the house. Forget doing this on my own. I like to suffer with other fools. I had to step it up last year by putting an extra riser back on my step for aerobics. I also grunted through an extra workout in a week. I knocked off some of the gain but I am not willing to starve myself to lose it all. Slow going. And boy have I been. 5 step or weight classes with the world's best gym teacher and in part because my daughter started to go to the gym and has to be driven there. I add one yoga class to end the week for flexibility. Now I feel I am on maintenance because of family commitments. 2-3x during the week with Sat one aerobics followed by a yoga class. Sure I wish I had the tone I had a few years ago because I am just not getting that definition back even after stepping up my workouts. I know I don't have the metabolism that it takes to be what I was 10 years ago, nor the drive. I just don't know how one retains the muscle mass because no matter what, the muscle goes the older we get.
I read that after menopause the hormonal ups and down are gone and women have been able to lose the weight to what they were prior to the big "M". We'll see. I just care that I have enough air in my lungs to get me where I want to go. I hate feeling tired and lethargic because I have to support my family. I was wondering how camp was going for Dihicks.
