I have a skinny kid and I am trying to push the calories at breakfast....Does any one have any suggestions for breakfast that is not high fat but high calories ( I read in this post to avoid high fat)? Today he had two boiled eggs and a piece of cheese toast ( lots of cheese) and whole milk

Have you tried giving Carnation instant breakfast? I used the powdered type and mix it with milk or a little ice cream to make a float. On days when my son has no appetite or time to eat breakfast he takes this. It has help him put on weight.

www.concerta.net/html/concerta/difference/diet.jsp?How does diet affect ADHD medication? A child’s diet is rarely consistent from day to day (cereal on Monday, bacon and eggs on Wednesday, Pop Tarts™ on Saturday, etc.) And the fact is, initial blood levels of some medications can be affected by what one eats for breakfast. That’s why it’s important to know about the results of the CAFE Study - CONCERTA, Adderall XR® (mixed amphetamine salts HCI) CII, Food Evaluation. This study compared CONCERTA and Adderall XR® and the effects of a high-fat breakfast on the early levels of medication (0-8 hours after taking medication) of these two leading once-daily, extended-release ADHD stimulant medications: The following findings were reported: CONCERTA’s rate of absorption is not affected by food – even after eating a high-fat breakfast. With Adderall XR®, though a child receives a full dose of medication over the course of a day, the levels of medication during the first 8 hours may be lowered when taken with a high-fat breakfast. While the overall delivery is not affected, Adderall XR® showed a significant decrease in early levels by as much as 55.5% when taken with a high-fat breakfast. Study proves CONCERTA serves up consistent delivery regardless of diet. So, unlike Adderall XR®, the rate of absorption of CONCERTA remains consistent, no matter what a child eats for breakfast. This could be critical if a child eats breakfasts such as bacon and eggs, pancakes or pastries that are considered high-fat. Adderall XR® is a registered trademark of Shire Richwood Inc. What about non-stimulant meds and citrus juices?

Hmm, if it doesn't mention in the prescribing info, then I guess it doesn't affect the absorption of these class of meds.

Hmm. Our doc never told us to give a full glass of water with the metadate. My dd drinks very little as it is . . . certainly not a full glass with her meds. I also wonder how long before taking food (breakfast) one should give the meds to optimize absorption. Or does food make no difference?

Oops. I didn't read all the posts before sending the last one . . . my kid's on a high fat, low carb atkins type diet for epilepy . . . meaning no choice regarding a low fat breakfast. Any news about metadate in regards to the fat issue? If not I'll ask doc.

While checking out the Adderall XR site, I came across this little tit bit. You are not supposed to give Antacids with Adderall XR.
