Hello everyone,
I recently came across a post that directed me to this website and quite honestly I am impressed by the support and care given.
After reading all the blogs and different threads I have found this site to be extremely helpful to me especially the fact that i am currently pursuing my degree to be come a Special Education teacher. For one of my courses, i was assigned to complete an interview with a parent who has a child with a disability and would gladly love to hear different responses. If anyone feels comfortable answering the questions below, please do so. Thank you
1. When was your child's disability initially suspected? Please discuss who brought it to the parents attention. If it was the parent who first suspected it, what was the cause for this suspicion?
2. Please share with me your experience with the initial testing process. Also be sure to discuss the child's experence, as well as how it may have changed during additional testing over time.
3. What was your level of involvement during the IFSP development? Be sure to discuss thoughts on how the process could be changed (if applicable).
4. Please share with me the various forms of therapy, treatment, and support that you and your child have received over time. How would you describe the relationships with the various service providers. Be sure to include the ability to have your needs understood and met by service providers
5. Discuss both the joys and frustrations that you have experienced with your child.
6. How has the fact that your child has a disability affected others in your immediate family? Be sure to focus on the siblings, spouse, grandparents.
7. How has this experience affected the establishment and maintenance of friendships that the child has had over time.
