Hello Everyone, My name is Elizabeth and I am a student at Santa Ana College. I am currently taking a course which requires me to interview a parent(s) of children with disabilities. I would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me their stories and answers to the questions that I have. The questions are not for a specific disability, but I do require for the answers to be specific and in depth. The age group of the children does not matter it can be from the ages of 3 through 17. If you would like to answer these questions I would really appreciate it, not only would it allow me to complete my assignment but it will allow you to let me know the struggles and the decisions that you as a parent of a child(s) with disabilities goes through to be a good parent and to provide your child(s) the love, care, education, and support that they need.
Questions: 1. Is there anything I can not ask you or you don’t want to talk about? 2. When did you discover your child had a disability? 3. How did you feel? 4. Were the medical professionals helpful? 5. How did this affect your family? 6. Was the father supportive? 7. Were you referred to regional center? If applicable. 8. Were services easily obtained from the school? 9. What difficulties have you had getting your child what they need to be successful? 10. What “life outcomes” do you expect for your child?

Hi, and welcome, Elizabeth! (I have a niece named Elizabeth, too, so your post really caught my attention.) We've had several other future teachers ask similar questions in the past, and I'm happy to reply by giving you a link to one of my prior responses. I think you'll find it answers most of your questions, and I hope you are able to share the information with your fellow "future teachers," so they have a better understanding that no two kids with LDs are the same: millermom.proboards.com/thread/13329/future-teacher-parent-interview
