I was wondering if anyone knows what a IEP classification for low incidence disabilities means. (It is listed on a friends DD IEP as the secondary reason for the IEP--with OHI as the first, but no SLD per say since they seem to only be able to list 2.) The mother had never heard of this classification and missed it completely on the IEP document. I read a little on it, but what I read sounds like schools are not really set up to handle these types of kids--which could be the issues that they are seeing. Mother thinks the daughter has Auditory processing issues, but there is still other learning issues that just haven't been addressed over the years with schools. DD is now in high school and the high school seems to be more on top of things, but not sure what they can do for this girl. Thanks!

Low Incidence Disabilities are ones like blindness, low vision, deafness/hard of hearing, deaf-blindness, significant developmental delay, complex health problems, a severe physical impairment, multiple disabilities, and autism.

Thanks for the answer. Her daughter definitely has severe learning issues--but I don't think anyone has ever told her mother that she is significantly developmentally delayed and she has never been classified as autistic. I am surprised that the mother is seeing this on an IEP report for the first time in 9th grade. To me this classification seems too severe for her daughter, so I am surprised by it being listed.

It might be that the daughter has multiple disabilities.
