A few members have been having issues posting on MM recently, I figured it might be their antivus programs but wanted to know if you have any insights into how to help them.
SharonF had this problem:
"I can “quick post.” But when I try to start a new thread, reply to a thread, or create a new message (anything where the emoticons show up), I get an error message saying Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with the web page and must close out.
Also—when I tried to get on MM on Friday, I had to re-log in even though I am supposed to be logged in “forever.” I don’t encounter this problem on my computer at work, just at home."
dwolen had this problem:
"Hi, I cannot make a new thread. I have questions about the topic, slow congnitive tempo. I did a search, but did not find anything in 25 posts. So, I tried to post a new thread. Every time I do, I get kicked out to the general menu screen. I get a pop up saying that a problem was found with the site, but windows returned me to the web site. "
teacherabc said "I have had the same problem periodically...it does not seem to be steady though. "

I also had the issue with having to re-sign in last week, even though I've got my system set to be logged in all the time, too. I figured it was a Proboards problem; it hasn't recurred lately. (I'm still using the same computer with the same software that I have had for a dozen years, with Windows 98SE and IE6, so I can assure you nothing has changed on my end.)

I noticed though that the problem was with my desktop, or on the computer at school, where I am not logged in all the time versus my laptop where I am logged in all the time.

For SharonF, she should try to upgrade to the newest version of internet explorer (if that is what she is using) and see if she still gets the error. Occasionally you will have to log back in if the browser is experiencing difficulties. For dwolen, try to increase the amount of posts searched (try 999 and set the limit for days to a reallly high number) and what browser are you using? Internet explorer? Try the option I suggested to sharon above. For teacherabc, what browser

bros, deeyana has this problem.
"I been running into problems on and off since Nove when coming to millermom. At first it started with pop ups when first entering this site. After a week my computer was alerting me of a "harmful" virus and would start scanning automatically when logging in . This happen at least 10 times. Also when coming here and trying to post my mouse would freeze or I would lose my post. I was logged in at the time and when I click post thread,It said I had to log in? I would log in again retype the post and run into the same problem over again. And Like Brenda the page would not load too. I had no problem loading the pages other sites."
How easy is it for people to plant virus on our site? Wouldn't proboards have some way of stopping it?

I'm having the same problem as SharonF but when IE closes out it reopens MM again. It just started doing this about 2 weeks ago...on my laptop; our desktop is fine. I use IE8, which I think is the latest version.

Mayleng, when you suggested it was the anti-virus program's fault, I asked dh. He is the computer guy and does it for a living, and has been spending a lot of time with the anti-virus stuff at home lately. He had McAfee before, but he just installed Avira. Anyway, he changed the settings, and now I don't have these problems. I would never have figured it out, because I leave this all up to him. He leaves health problems up to me. If it would help, he can explain what he did.

McAfee is rather bad as an antivirus, it can be rather..... prohibitive and overprotective, like Norton.
With IE8, try options, compatibility mode or whatever

dwolen, I know Kasperskey (latest version) did give me some problems, it was a known issue with them, so when I called, they helped me resolve it.
Whilst the machine that I had Norton 360 did not give me any issues, but now that I had updated it to the latest version, it is messing around with how the smileys are being shown (same as with Kaspersky). So I figured there is something they have included in the latest version of the different antivirus software that is causing issues.
By the way, my husband leaves all the computer stuff and health stuff to me amongst other things. LOL!
