For anyone with a child with a disability such as asperger syndrome it is worth getting a disability tax credit certificate filled out by your child's Dr.I did not know about this program until about three months ago when my dd was seen by a specialist who asked if a form had been filled out for her.The Dr filled out the form and today I called and it was approved, revenue Canada said we should receive a fairly substantial cheque with in 10 days. You can also have your income tax adjusted for the last 10 years if your child was born with a disability and if you request it and can claim certain expenses on your taxes. I love when the federal government gives me money.

Hi Fellow Canadian Do you know what other disabilities qualify? I am assuming you require the doctors dx (I think you said that...) but what if it is just a combo of things like, speech, language, visual, auditory? Any thoughts. thanks

There is no criteria on specific disabilities.I understand that some people with kids with type 1 diabetes get this tax credit. It is based on markedly restricted in a activity of daily living. These include vision, speaking, hearing, walking, elimination[bowel or bladder function],feeding, dressing, performing the mental functions necessary for everyday life. The doctor filling out the form assesses the person relative to someone of a similar chronological age. There is also a section for cumulative effects of significant restrictions. this form is called a disability tax credit certificate it is form T2201 and can be downloaded from the revenue Canada web site.It is worth it for you to take a look at it. To clarify my post.I received a letter from revenue Canada you can request the child disability benefit going back to 2003 if your child was born prior to that, then you receive extra money every month if you qualify for the baby bonus. You can also have your taxes adjusted for the previous ten years if your child was born prior to the ten years. I would be very leery of these type of services especially if you pay up front. This program is based on a form a Dr fills out and I did not find it confusing.
